World Performing Arts Festival

Even with political emergency ! life in Pakistan carries on with the same vigor.

The World Performing Arts Festival at Lahore is being held at the Qaddafi Stadium from 22nd of November till the 2nd of December. This is an annual festival organized by the Rafi Peer Theatre. Over three hundred international thespians, dancers, puppet masters and musicians are putting up their shows at different camps and halls at the Stadium .

Besides artists from Bulgaria, Switzerland, Germany, India, Austria, Italy, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Netherlands, United Kingdom and the Czech Republic a host of local artists like Sheema Kirmani, Fasi-ur-Rehman, Areeb Azhar, Abrar-ul-Haq, Call, Overload, the Niazi Brothers, Roxen, Saien Zahoor, Shafqat Ali Khan will light up Lahore into a potpourri of colour with theatre, dance, film, puppetry and music from Pakistan.

The Performing Arts Festival is the largest-ever international cultural event to be ever held in Pakistan .The week long festival will have live musical performances, theatre and dance in all its forms presenting a cross-cultural experience to audiences in Pakistan.

With more international troupes performing in comparison to previous years , it’s sad hear that the news blockage of television channels has hampered advertisements and publicity that the Rafi Peer Theater so well deserves.

Some of the performances to look out for are 'One Reel' by Zaches Teatro, Krespo's 'The smallest woman on earth', Sharmistha Mukherjee and Joanna De Souza's dance performances (in addition to Sheema Kermani and Fasi-ur- Rehman's), Kabhi Al- Qaeda Na Khena by Patay Khan, Ajoka’s Toba Tek Singh and each day's Folk, World Music, Rock, Fusion, Devotional and Classical nights.

The Rafi Peer Theatre has done much to revive Pakistan's rich cultural tradition in performing arts and has kept it alive for generations to come. For those of you visiting Pakistan do not miss such exposure and interaction between different cultures and performing arts. There is a lot more good Pakistan offers than any sensational news around.
